Hardscrabble Club’s Rising Stars

The Hardscrabble Club conducted a Level 1B tennis tournament over the weekend of 5/29-6/1 with a large entry competing over 4 age groups from 18s to 12s coming mainly from the Tri-State area.

Members from the Club performed particularly well winning half of the age groups - a very impressive achievement indeed!

Here are the results:

It was a family affair in the Boys 12s and 16s finals, where Robert and Matt Levine took out their respective titles very convincingly.

The momentum for the club continued in the girls section with Taylor Wray easily taking out the 12s division whilst in the match of the tournament, Shloka Kumar gave herself a fine farewell present before she returns to her native India shortly, by winning a tough 3 set match against an older, more powerful opponent in the 14s competition with great panache.

Other winners were an impressive Nicolette Jackson from New Jersey in the 18s girls, Taylor Stathis   - in the 16s girls, whilst Spencer Goldberg from Chappaqua overcame some long, close matches to prevail in the 14s boys, and Haythem Laarabi proved too strong in the 18s Boys group.

To top matters off for the Club, Abhaya Prakash decided to be the last entry in but the decisive winner in the final to clinch the Men’s Open title held at the same time.

Congratulations to all participants and remember to get your entries in for the next tournament here at the Club to be held on June 27-29.

This was the first time she had the privilege of playing in the main draw of the Grand Slam and she enjoyed it greatly. Shortly after Wimbledon, Lena traveled down to South Africa and won the Grade 2 International Junior Tournament in both Singles and Doubles. The exciting victory raised her ranking high enough for her to be able to play the main draw of the Junior US Open this September, which will be her final Junior tournament. What a way to end!!!
